Accumulation of Antioxidants in Apricot Fruit through Ripening: Characterization of a Genotype with Enhanced Functional Properties Biol. Res.
Hegedüs,Attila; Pfeiffer,Péter; Papp,Nóra; Abrankó,László; Blázovics,Anna; Pedryc,Andrzej; Stefanovits-Bányai,Éva.
Two apricot genotypes, 'Gonci magyarkajszi' and 'Preventa' were assayed at three ripening stages for flesh color indices (L*, a*, b*, C* and Hº), contents of total phenolics and vitamin C, and both water- and lipid-soluble antioxidant capacities (ferric reducing antioxidant power; 2,2'-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl scavenging activity; total radical scavenging activity; and Photochem lipid-soluble antioxidant capacity) to compare their dynamics in the accumulation of antioxidant compounds and capacities through ripening. The increase in a*, b* and C* and decrease in Hº during ripening represented a color shift from green to yellow and orange due to carotenoid accumulation. Parallel to carotenoid accumulation, contents of total phenolics and vitamin C and...

Determination of some apricot seed and kernel physical and mechanical properties CIGR Journal
Fayed, Mohamed Ismail Abd El-Ghaffar.
At the duration of this study, a sample of 100 intact apricot fruits, canino variety were selected randomly. The seeds were shelled using a nutcracker and the intact kernels were separated manually. Then, some apricot seed and kernel physical and mechanical properties were determined as relative parameters for designing the apricot seed kernels separator. The obtained results may be summarized as follows:At 7.13% (w.b.) apricot seeds moisture content, the length, width and thickness values were 18.90, 16.48 and 11.31 mm, respectively. The surface area, projected area, volume, arithmetic mean diameter, geometric mean diameter, sphericity and aspect ratio values were 727.09 mm2, 244.60 mm2, 1847.69 mm3, 15.56 mm, 15.20 mm, 80.61 % and 87.53 %, respectively....

First record of Braconidae as parasitoids of Capnodis tenebrionis (Linnaeus) (Coleoptera: Buprestidae), with notes on the ecology of Spathius erythrocephalus Wesmael (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) Naturalis
Bonsignore, C.P.; Achterberg, C. van; Vacante, V..
For the first time an ichneumonoid parasitoid is reported from the peach flatheaded rootborer Capnodis tenebrionis (Linnaeus, 1758) (Coleoptera: Buprestidae) in a heavily infested plum and apricot orchard in south-western Sicily. In 2005 and 2006 the ecology of the ectoparasitoid Spathius erythrocephalus Wesmael, 1838, (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) was studied. The larvae are ectophagous and gregarious; obviously the parasitoid search for the large buprestid larval (6.0 ± 0.4 cm). The adult parasitoid appeared in both cultivations in August and/or September and selected only the mature larvae for oviposition. In 2006 35% of the rootborer larvae on plum were parasitized. Significant diff erences were found between the mean depth in the soil in which parasitized...

Phenolic compounds and vitamins in wild and cultivated apricot (Prunus armeniaca L.) fruits grown in irrigated and dry farming conditions Biol. Res.
Kan,Tuncay; Gundogdu,Muttalip; Ercisli,Sezai; Muradoglu,Ferhad; Celik,Ferit; Gecer,Mustafa Kenan; Kodad,Ossama; Zia-Ul-Haq,Muhammad.
BACKGROUND: Turkey is the main apricot producer in the world and apricots have been produced under both dry and irrigated conditions in the country. In this study, phenolic compounds and vitamins in fruits of one wild (Zerdali) and three main apricot cultivars ('Cataloglu', 'Hacihaliloglu' and 'Kabaasi') grown in both dry and irrigated conditions in Malatya provinces in Turkey were investigated. RESULTS: The findings indicated that higher content of phenolic compounds and vitamins was found in apricot fruits grown in irrigated conditions. Among the cultivars, 'Cataloglu' had the highest rutin contents both in irrigated and dry farming conditions as 2855 µg in irrigated and 6952 µg per 100 g dried weight base in dry conditions and the highest chlorogenic...
